This sax solo has been making the rounds on the internet, for the complexity of its content, the creativity of the player, the facial expressions and reactions of the other players in the band, and of course the infamous NOTE, the moment where Blanding seems to play something totally WRONG, leans into it hard, then harder, and then beautifully resolves it in a way nobody could have imagined.
As usual I tried to indicate as many of the details of expression as possible. As it is so often with the greats, it's not WHAT you play but HOW you play it. I also did a harmonic and motivic analysis so you can appreciate the intelligence and beauty of his musical choices. Enjoy and listen deeply!
For Tenor (original) and also transposed for Alto sax as requested.
